There are 4 indigenous groups in the Sierra Nevada, the Kogui, Wiwa, Arhuaco and Kankuamo. The Colombians call them ‘hermanos mayores’ or older brothers, and they are well respected for their wisdom and history. Their cultures all derive from one large group, the Tayrona, who split apart as the Spaniards arrived to the area. Many tourists unknowingly walk on indigenous paths during their time here. The indigenous groups of the Sierra Nevada are famous for their connection and care of the natural world, and they believe that the wellbeing of the entire planet is connected to the wellbeing of this region, which they sometimes call ‘el corazón of the world’ —the heart of the world.
More information about this groups is on the way!
